washington nationalsMax Scherzer held Philadelphia to three hits in eight innings in a 3-2 Washington Nationals win Tuesday night.

Scherzer (15-7, 2.89 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) struck out 11 and walked one, and took a shutout into the seventh, before giving up a two-run homer to Ryan Howard, his 20th of the season.

Trea Turner (.344/.364/.538, 5 HR, 22 RBI) had two hits in four at-bats, as he always seems to. The surging Bryce Harper (.252/.385/.468, 23 HR, 75 RBI) had an RBI double and scored a run on a 1-for-4 night.

Washington (77-55) has a nine-game lead on the New York Mets (68-64) in the NL East, and a magic number to clinch the division of 22.
