Mental Health Association of Augusta hosts 60th annual meeting, auction

newspaperKathy Drumwright, Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, will address the theme Speak Up, Speak Out for Mental Health for the MHA-A’s 60th Annual Meeting and Silent Auction on November 14th beginning with a Social Hour and Silent Auction at 6:00 pm at the Holiday Inn Staunton Conference Center.

Prior to her current appointment, she served as Assistant Commissioner of Quality Management and Development.  Ms. Drumwright is responsible for the oversight of DBHDS operations including the Divisions of Behavioral Health, Developmental Services, Forensic Services, and Quality Management and Development. Spending  her career in public service, primarily in the CSB system in Chesapeake, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, she held the positions of Clinician, Mental Health Director, Interim Executive Director, and Deputy Director of Human Services.

Her experiences have included program development in the areas of psychosocial rehabilitation, supported and supervised residential services, outpatient, emergency, intensive in-home, crisis stabilization, and case management services, and leadership and management operational responsibility for behavioral health, including those with substance use disorders, and developmental services in the CSB system for over three decades. Since arriving at DBHDS, Ms. Drumwright has focused on quality management, the development of system performance measures, analytics and compliance with the DOJ Settlement Agreement as well as oversight for licensing, human rights, risk management, case management coordination, community contracting and planning.

Much of her career has been spent in public sector behavioral health and developmental services designing and overseeing programs for those with serious and persistent disabilities.  Ms. Drumwright received her B.S. in Psychology from Old Dominion University and her M.A. in Psychology from Norfolk State University.  A native of the South Hampton Roads area of Virginia, Ms. Drumwright enjoys the beach, mountains, trips to the southwest U.S., and spending time with family.

The MHA-A Board of Directors looks forward to seeing you at our 60th Annual Meeting Dinner and Silent Auction on November 14TH at the Holiday Inn Staunton Conference Center. The Bells of Bethel will provide music selections during the evening. MHA-A Board Member, Lilchy Huffman is one of their Bell Choir Members. Ellen Schorsch will provide piano music during the Social Hour and Silent Auction.  All proceeds fund our many programs and services.  “We are delighted to host this fun and exciting annual event,” said Donna Gum, MHA-A Executive Director.”
