It’s certainly not the good old days for newspaper publishers, when the biggest decision they faced was which big-money advertiser to play golf with on Wednesday and then which one had to get pushed back to Thursday or Friday.
But while newspaper circulations are down, there are still plenty of people reading the dailies in all their ink-stained print glory.
The Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg enjoys the biggest readership. According to data in a 2014 report from the Virginia Press Association, the DNR had an average circulation of 26,184 papers Monday-Friday and 28,167 on Saturdays.
The Daily Progress in Charlottesville is next with circulation of 21,849 Monday-Saturday and 23,567 on Sundays.
The News Leader in Staunton had an average Monday-Saturday circulation of 13,129 and an average Sunday circulation of 16,385.
The News Virginian in Waynesboro had an average Monday-Saturday circulation of 5,738 and an average Sunday circulation of 5,519.
