Election 2025 | Youngkin, again, trying to suppress the vote: Repeat of 2024 voter purge on the horizon

MAGA Gov. Glenn Youngkin is pulling election shenanigans again, on the eve of early voting starting in the 2025 statewide election cycle.

Youngkin, on Friday, announced that he has signed an executive order directing the Virginia Department of Elections to remove allegedly ineligible voters from the rolls in accordance with state and federal law.

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Youngkin did the exact same thing this time last year, ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Voter Suppression Rambo said in a statement in a news release from his office on Friday that the EO “builds upon our previous work to make Virginia’s election security the best in the nation.”

Calling BS was State Sen. Aaron Rouse, the chair of the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee, who is casting the effort from Youngkin for what it is.

“This is voter suppression and intimidation disguised as election integrity, just a week before early voting begins in Virginia,” Rouse said. “Voter fraud is virtually nonexistent, and our elections have been among the most secure in history. This is Youngkin’s same repeated playbook. He pulled this exact move last year, took it all the way to the Supreme Court, and was allowed to reinstate his voter purge program. With President Trump now back in office, there is nothing stopping him from going even further. This is about undermining confidence in our elections and ultimately, our democracy.”

Unfortunately, Rouse ain’t wrong about there being “nothing stopping” Youngkin from doing what he’s doing, not with a 6-3 Trump Supreme Court ready to sign off on the legality of whatever the MAGAs try to do.

Democrats challenged the 2024 nonsense, but the Supremes issued an emergency stay allowing the voter purge initiated by the Youngkinites to proceed, and the suit was ultimately dropped in January, against the backdrop of the new reality, that Trump was in charge of the Department of Justice, meaning, lawlessness is now the law of the land.

“Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy,” Rouse said, not that it matters. “Instead of sowing doubt and fear, we should be focused on expanding access, protecting every eligible voter, and ensuring that Virginians can cast their ballots without intimidation or unnecessary barriers.”
