Fresh off his recent induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, Bill Goldberg paid a visit to The Last Great Colosseum on Saturday prior to the running of the Xfinity series race.
Goldberg was on hand with his son for weekend activities at Bristol Motor Speedway and was presented with a sword by BMS General Manager Jerry Caldwell for his recent honor and his support of Bristol Motor Speedway and NASCAR racing.
“It’s ironic that I’ve been presented a sword,” commented Goldberg in his comments to the media on hand in the BMS infield.
Goldberg told the media present that he wasn’t the kind that liked to go on camera and brag during his time in the WWE.
“I was the anti-thesis of what people were used to in wrestling,” replied the Hall of Fame wrestler. “I just killed people. It was organic. It was what people wanted to see.”
Goldberg attributed his success to the fans and also that It was something different. “MMA was just starting to get popular. I just wanted to be different, and carve my own niche.”
Now away from the ring, Goldberg has stepped away from the limelight. “Its not about me anymore. It’s about him (pointing to his son present in the audience). I own a farm in San Diego. I’m not the priority anymore. I’ve taken a step back.”
With a new television show coming out next week, Goldberg said, “I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
He added that “with all the stuff going on in the world, being thought of as a role model and being a positive role model, I don’t want to care about anything else.” Saying he has done a lot already, Goldberg followed up by saying, “I’ve got so many things to do but I want to drive a dragster.”
When asked who was such a big influence on him in the sport of wrestling, Goldberg said it would have to be Steve Austin. “He was such a big influence through my rise through the ranks. I didn’t copy anyone…but I’d like to have shared the ring with him. He’s the one I wanted to have an angle with.”
Goldberg was present for race weekend festivities at Bristol Motor Speedway prior to the running of the Xfinity Series Fitzgerald Glider Kits 300 race.
