Staunton man charged with murder in death of infant son

purnellA Staunton man has been charged with murder in the death of his one-month-old son.

Ronald W. Purnell, 28, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his son, Michael, who died on Thursday.

Staunton Police responded to 1800 Churchville Avenue at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a report of an unresponsive infant. The child was transported to Augusta Health and ultimately transferred to the University of Virginia Medical Center, where he died on Thursday.

Ronald Purnell was arrested on Friday, and is being held at Middle River Regional Jail.
