Staunton encourages residents to participate in 2026 budget process

The Fiscal Year 2026 budget process is underway for Staunton City Council.

Through late January, efforts focused on estimating revenues and working through budget requests from departments and outside agencies.

City council held a joint work session with the Staunton City School Board on January 23 in which they discussed the FY 2026 school budget and ways to pursue greater collaboration.

The proposed budget will be presented to city council by City Manager Leslie Beauregard on March 27. Multiple work sessions and public hearings will be held throughout the budget process and give community members opportunities to provide comment.

Work sessions and public hearings will be held:

Thursday, February 27
5 p.m. – Presentation of Draft Capital Improvement Plan (FY 2026-2030)

Thursday, March 27
5 p.m. – Presentation of FY 2026 Proposed Budget by City Manager
7 p.m. – Public hearing on proposed real estate tax rate

Thursday, April 3
5 p.m. – Budget and Capital Improvement Plan work session

Thursday, April 10
5 p.m. – Budget work session, including a joint meeting with city schools
7 p.m. – Public hearing on all budget ordinances

Thursday, April 24
5 p.m. – Budget work session
7 p.m. – Adoption of the City of Staunton FY 2026 Budget and FY 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Plan
