Charlottesville Area Independent SchoolsCharlottesville Area Independent Schools (CAIS) will hold a community fair on Oct. 12 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Jefferson School City Center (233 4th St. NW).

This event is free and open to the public, and families are invited to take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore preschool through high school independent education options, learn about affording an independent school education, meet with school representatives one-on-one, and find out more about each school community.

New this year will be performances by elementary, middle, and high school student groups as well as activities for kids led by volunteer teachers. Mark Eastham, former Stuart Hall head of school (2004 – 2019), will also speak at 10:15 a.m. on the value of an independent school education.

Under Eastham’s leadership, Stuart Hall merged with Hunter McGuire School in 2007, expanding into a PreK–12 institution. In 2014, the boarding program was opened to male students, making the school fully coeducational. Prior to Stuart Hall, Eastham was headmaster of Aylett Country Day School in Millers Tavern, Va., and Assistant Headmaster and Director of Development for St. Margaret’s, Tappahannock. He began his career at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., where he served in a variety of roles in fundraising and communications.
