An eagerly anticipated Buc-ee’s Travel Center coming to Rockingham County is on track for its planned June 30 opening, according to county officials.
The store will officially open on Monday, June 30, at 6 a.m., with a ribbon cutting and ceremony scheduled for 10 a.m.
The travel center will be located off Interstate 81 at exit 240 in Mount Crawford, just south of Harrisonburg.
With just over three weeks until the grand opening, store officials are working on the finishing details as they prepare to open the doors.
“The store is likely around 95 percent complete, and I believe they were meeting with various vendors for products in the store this week,” said Joshua Gooden, the economic development and tourism coordinator for Rockingham County.
The Buc-ee’s Travel Center is expected to bring more than 200 full-time jobs to the county and will be 74,000 square feet with 120 fueling stations and 24 EV charging stations.
This will be the first Buc-ee’s location to open in Virginia, conveniently located off I-81.
“One of the prettiest roads we could ever hope for, I-81 is full of folks seeking fun and all that Virginia has to offer,” said Stan Beard of Buc-ee’s decision to locate off I-81. “We are the perfect pitstop for their road-trips and for the amazing people of Rockingham County.”
Buc-ee’s is not a truck stop; 18 wheelers are not allowed on the property.
A similar sized location is planned to open in 2027 in New Kent County, at exit 211 off Interstate 64, east of Richmond.
Buc-ee’s has identified a potential third location in Stafford County off Interstate 95.
The travel center has locations in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. It began at multi-state expansion in 2019.
