Pitt was 0-2 with back-to-back losses to I-AA Youngstown State and Cincinnati and with #13 Virginia Tech coming to town.

Hey, no worries.

The Panthers jumped out to a 21-0 lead and were never seriously threatened in a 35-17 win at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

“I thought they were hitting on all cylinders, and I thought it was their day,” Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer said.

The Tech offense struggled on both sides of the ball, allowing Pitt, which scored a combined 27 points in its first two games, to gain 537 yards of total offense, while the Hokie offense committed four turnovers, three on interceptions thrown by quarterback Logan Thomas

The two Virginia Tech touchdowns came on big plays – a 94-yard punt return by Kyshoen Jarrett and an 85-yard pass from Thomas to wideout Marcus Davis.
