Women’s Basketball: Virginia gets road win at struggling Syracuse, 70-67

Wow, Syracuse women’s basketball has fallen off a cliff. Good win for Virginia, because it was a road win, 70-67, on Sunday, but, man.

Syracuse (8-13, 2-8 ACC, NET: 93) was 24-8 and won an NCAA Tournament game last year.

Quentin Hillsman went to eight straight NCAAs, and was the national runner-up in 2016, before being forced out in 2021 over a load of stuff – “concerning behavior” including hiring an assistant who had been accused of sexual harassment.

He’s trying to rehab his reputation at Ole Miss, which, that checks out.

‘Cuse hired Felisha Legette-Jack (343-279 at Hofstra, Indiana and Buffalo) to clean up the mess, and I’m not seeing anything off the court that looks bad on her regime, but the stuff on the court isn’t going good, based on the won-loss record.

Anyway, to Virginia’s win: it’s the third ACC road win for the Cavaliers (12-11, 4-7 ACC, NET: 79), so, that’s good.

UVA trailer by 14 in the third quarter, and was down 60-52 going into the fourth, before taking control with a 16-3 run over the first 8:23.

Latasha Lattimore had 26 points (12-of-24 FG, 2-of-5 3FG) and six rebounds for Virginia.

Kymora Johnson 17 points (8-of-13 FG, 1-of-2 3FG), six rebounds and eight assists.

Maybe this one holds off the DEI dolts who only care about women’s sports when it’s something they can complain about for a couple of days.

Next up for Virginia: #25 Florida State (17-4, 7-2 ACC, NET: 22) on Thursday at JPJ.
