UVA Athletics announced the non-conference schedule for the women’s basketball team for the coming 2026-2027 season, which begins a new era, with first-year coach Aaron Roussell getting his debut on Nov. 2 at JPJ against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Like that first game, the home non-conference schedule ain’t much of one – with the other home matchups being William & Mary (Nov. 8), Drexel (Nov. 11), JMU (Nov. 19), American (Dec. 9), Navy (Dec. 13), Stony Brook (Dec. 22), and Norfolk State (Dec. 28).
The road games include Davidson (Nov. 5), Old Dominion (Nov. 15) and Mississippi State (Dec. 3) – the latter part of the SEC/ACC Challenge.
The neutral-site games are Oklahoma and UAB in the Jacksonville Classic (Nov. 23-25) and Kentucky (Dec. 20) in the espnW Invitational in Nashville.
I don’t get this quote attributed to Roussell in the release.
“With a new staff and new team, there are going to be questions, and we wanted to schedule games that were going to get those answered early and teach valuable lessons. This schedule will challenge us, and I think it will be exactly what we need,” Roussell said.
Analysis
Davidson (2025-2026 RPI: 73) and JMU (2025-2026 RPI: 45) are good early-season tests, then there’s Oklahoma (2025-2026 RPI: 13), Mississippi State (2025-2026 RPI: 43) and Kentucky (2025-2026 RPI: 16).
Then there are nine Quad 4 games.
Amaka Agugua-Hamilton only got 11 November and December non-conference games onto her 2025-2026 schedule; nine of the 11 were Quad 4s.
The Roussell schedule is more challenging, but it’s nothing to brag about.
