Ben Cline is still trying to save the Daughters of the American Revolution

Sixth District Congressman Ben Cline is still trying to hype up his nonsense bill that would require the Daughters of the American Revolution to limit membership to biological women – an issue that DAR itself says would impact, at most, five trans women who want to join the group, which is congressionally chartered.

House Republicans and I have opposed radical gender ideology every time it appears. Now, it’s affecting a historic, patriotic organization like the Daughters of the American Revolution. My bill will ensure the DAR remains for biological women only,” Cline wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday, linking to a story from The Daily Signal, a MAGA news outlet, that was published back on July 15 – the day that Cline introduced the bill in the House of Representatives.

Must have been a slow newsfeed day for ol’ Bennie, to have to play from what he thinks are his greatest hits.

If this one is one of the greatest hits, it doesn’t say much for the setlist.

Five weeks since Cline introduced the Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act, nothing is happening with it.

The last action on the bill, per his Congress.gov member page, came on July 15; he introduced the bill, and then it was referred to the House Judiciary Committee, which has done nothing with it.

Not even Jim Jordan can be bothered to pretend that this is worthy of political oxygen.

Perhaps that’s because the bill that Cline is pushing here would serve to undermine the wishes of the actual organization in question on the issue; DAR membership voted 1,481-984 at its 135th Continental Congress in Washington, D.C., in June against a measure to keep membership for those “born female.”

And because, again, it affects, at most, five trans women who want to join the group.

There is “radical gender ideology” at play here, but it ain’t the kind that Ben Cline seems to think exists.
