Al Green, the Texas Democrat, who was gerrymandered out of his House seat earlier this year, likes to draw up Articles of Impeachment for Donald Trump.
It’s just something that Green thinks he’s good at, like, how some folks think they’re good at singing, and try to prove it on karaoke night – and their friends are, like, sure, you were, you know, you were good, you’re a good singer.
Green, after his latest failed effort, on Tuesday, is now 0-for-8 lifetime in his attempts at impeachment.
He got 147 yay votes on this latest one, which focused on the Trump administration’s aggressive, to say the least, anti-immigration campaign.
Definitely a worthy cause there, but as with the others, Green did no homework on this one, and didn’t really deserve even an up-or-down floor vote, much less 147 yays.
“While many of these warrant accountability, and President Trump likely has committed impeachable offenses, Congress has not established the record necessary to support Articles of Impeachment or a conviction in a Senate impeachment trial,” Fourth District Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan said in a statement on Tuesday.
McClellan voted “present,” so, neither yay or nay.
This won’t be an issue for her in terms of her re-election – the Fourth is a Solid D seat, won in the 2024 cycle by Kamala Harris by 33 points.
Eugene Vindman won the open Seventh District seat in 2024 by a narrow 2.7-point margin, but his race gets a Likely D rating from the Cook Political Report, which notes that Abigail Spanberger won the district in the 2025 cycle by 13 points.
I bring all of that up because, Vindman decided to cast his lot with Green’s quixotic impeachment effort.
“Under this administration, ICE has been the subject of serious allegations concerning the use of force, transparency, and accountability. Renée Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero lost their lives in encounters involving federal immigration enforcement. They should still be here with us today,” Vindman said in a statement.
“President Trump is the most corrupt public official in our nation’s history,” Vindman said. “I was proud to vote to hold him accountable today, but it should be no surprise that rubberstamp Republicans fell in line and let him off the hook, shirking their responsibility to the American people. President Trump will answer for the lives of these innocent civilians who were taken too soon.”
There’s a reason the MAGAs didn’t mind this one getting to a floor vote. They want to be able to say that Democrats are more focused on grandstanding than doing anything substantive, which is the pot calling the kettle black, but still.
Consider this statement on today’s vote, from Morgan Griffith, the MAGA incumbent down in the safe-as-all-get-out Ninth District:
“Yet again, Democrats in the House reminded the American people they are not serious about actually governing. Instead of tending to the business of the country, Democrats staged a political stunt. This vote is just a glimpse of what Congress would look like with the Democratic Socialists of America in charge,” Griffith said.
“The Republican majority in Congress is focused on positive results. That is why I will continue to support policy wins promoting historic tax relief, the reversal of Democrats’ open borders policies and initiatives that greatly reduce waste, fraud and abuse,” Griffith said.
Nothing there from Griffith about inflation, job losses or high gas and diesel prices, you might have noticed – just tax breaks for rich people, punishing brown people and cutting the social safety net.
Ah, well, that’s what their people elected them to do – nothing.
