Turns out, Isaiah Wilkins not being considered good enough for a spot on Ryan Odom’s UVA Basketball staff ended up working out for him.

Wilkins, a Tony Bennett-era alum who also worked as an assistant coach under Bennett and then the interim year of Ron Sanchez, is now on the coaching staff of the Milwaukee Bucks, with the title assistant coach/player development.

Wilkins, a 2018 University of Virginia alum, spent the 2025-2026 season as an assistant coach at Cal, after Odom decided against retaining him.

Taylor Jenkins, the head coach in Milwaukee, has another UVA Basketball guy on his staff, in the form of Johnny Carpenter, who was a team manager for Bennett from 2010-2013, then was a grad assistant under former UVA women’s hoops coach Joanne Boyle in the 2013-2014 season.

Carpenter was on Bennett’s staff at Virginia for nine seasons before taking a job on Jenkins’ staff at Memphis for the 2024-2025 season.

After Jenkins was let go from that job, Carpenter landed a gig with UVA Basketball alum Rick Carlisle in Indiana for the 2025-2026 season.

Carpenter had worked for Carlisle in Dallas as the assistant video coordinator in the 2014-2015 season.
