Gov. Bob McDonnell has set the special election for the open seat in the 26th House District for June 15.

The 26th District includes Harrisonburg and a portion of Rockingham County. The seat was left open when Republican Matt Lohr stepped down to take the post of commissioner of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Republicans are selecting a nominee for the special election today. Harrisonburg Mayor Kai Degner was nominated by the Democratic Party last week.

“I look forward to spending this spring greeting voters, knocking on doors and working to win the support of the 26th District,” Degner said in a statement today.
