Rain dampens Waynesboro Generals rally in Staunton

Chris Graham

gens-braves3A ninth-inning Waynesboro Generals rally Tuesday night in Staunton never officially happened. Waynesboro scored a run and had the tying run on third with one out, but then the rains came, and at the end of the shower the game was called, the final score being Braves 4, Generals 2.

The loss drops Waynesboro (7-12) to six games back of the first-place Braves in the South Division, and is the seventh loss in eight games for the two-time defending Valley League champion Generals, who are in last place in the South.

Will Montgomerie (0-1) took the loss for Waynesboro, giving up three runs, two earned, on four hits in seven innings, striking out 10 and walking two.

The Generals host Covington at Linco Park at Kate Collins Field in Waynesboro at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
