Mary Baldwin College theatre presents “Quilters” by Molly Newman and Barbara Damashek. Directed by Terry Southerington ’72. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Fletcher Collins Theatre, Deming Fine Arts Center.

Combining music, dance, and vivid storytelling, this music plays eloquent tribute to the courage and spirit of American pioneer women. Based on the book The Quilters: Women and Domestic Art by Patricia Cooper and Norma Bradley Allen, the human patchwork of trails and joys is mirrored in the traditional patterns of quilts fashioned by Sarah and her six daughters.

“Global Rhythms” with Srinivas Krishnan. 7:30 p.m. Francis Auditorium in the Pearce Science Center, 227 East Frederick Street, Staunton.
Srinivas Krishnan, artistic director of Global Rhythms and artist-in-residence at Mary Baldwin College’s new Samuel R. and Ava Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement, and other performers from around the world will invite their audience to admire the power of music during “Deep Roots of Music Connecting Cultures with Satish Pathitoka kanjira on drums and 2 other musicians”. This is a free public concert.

Community Service Speaker Series: Misty Boos from Wild Virginia and Bruce Rinker from Valley Conservation Council. 1 – 2 p.m. Miller Chapel, 110 N. Market Street, Staunton.

 

October 18

Staunton Contra Dance. Dance workshop, 7:30 p.m. Dance, 8-11 p.m. The caller is Valerie Helbert with “Go Figure”. Contra dancing is an aerobic, social dance with a caller and live music. Open to the public: $8 adults, $4 teens/students, $3 children under 12, $1 MBC Students with ID.
