jmu forbes centerRecently incarcerated men receiving services from Gemeinschaft Home will perform songs about their lives 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts at James Madison University.

During the 2017-2018 school year, music and social work students facilitated weekly storytelling and songwriting sessions with the men and participated in a research project funded by a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The songs and stories will come to life in a concert called, “Transitioning and Traversing: Stories and Songs of Incarceration, Equity, Justice and Community.” Additional musicians from the Harrisonburg area, JMU faculty and students also will perform.

Located in a large farmhouse on the north side of Harrisonburg, Gemeinschaft Home provides cutting-edge therapeutic services to nonviolent offenders who have been released or diverted from incarceration in support of a transition to healthy community living. For more information, visit www.gemeinschafthome.org.

Tickets are $12-$13. For tickets, visit www.jmuforbescenter.com or call the Forbes Center Box Office at (540) 568-7000.
