A section of Country Club Road in Harrisonburg has a new weight restriction after a routine inspection found it in need of repairs.

The area, a stretch of pavement that crosses a culvert between Linda Lane and the Interstate 81 overpass near the Chaney Enterprises concrete plant entrance, will be restricted to a 33-ton weight limit following an inspection that determined the limit was necessary due to the current condition of the culvert.

It is unknown of the potential impact of the weight restriction to the Harrisonburg business.

The area is still safe for general passenger vehicles and can continue to be used by emergency response vehicles as needed, according to the City of Harrisonburg.

The city conducts bridge inspections across the community throughout the year.

Harrisonburg Public Works will pursue funds in the near future to upgrade the culvert which would eliminate the need for a weight restriction.

Vehicles over the restricted weight can utilize East Market Street instead.
