Fishburne basketball drops conference opener to Eastern Mennonite

FMS-newThe Caissons fought hard, but the shots just would not fall on Tuesday night as the visiting Flames from Eastern Mennonite were able to take the conference opener from Fishburne, 60-51.

The Caissons struggled shooting from the field and from the free throw line. Fishburne also had key players in foul trouble early in the first half.

Junior guard, and team captain, Kian Tate of Waynesboro, led the way for the Caissons. After sitting out the second quarter with two fouls, Tate scored 19 of his 23 points in the second half. Fellow Waynesboro native and team captain Treavor Norman scored 11 points. The senior’s tough play kept the Caissons within striking distance in the first half.

Churchville junior Holden Sandridge also scored in double digits with 10 but also found himself in foul trouble in the second half. Waynesboro sophmore Mesiah Woods came off the bench to add five points while Calen Owens, a junior from Fishersville, rounded out the Caissons effort with two points.

Fishburne’s varsity team is now 1-1 (0-1 VIC) and will host North Cross in another conference matchup on Friday, with tip-off at 6 p.m.
