bridgewater logoThe first night games in program history highlight the 2014 schedule for the Bridgewater Eagles football team in head coach Michael Clark‘s 20th season at the helm of the program.

The Eagles travel to face off with a new team in the 2014 season opener as Gettysburg replaces St. Vincent on the schedule. Gettysburg, which is coming off of a 4-6 campaign, will host the Eagles at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 6.

Bridgewater’s home opener on Sept. 13 will feature the program’s first-ever game under the lights at the Jopson Athletic Complex as the Eagles welcome Greensboro to town in week two. The Eagles have swept the last two contests against The Pride, outscoring Greensboro by a combined score of 71-20.

“Gettysburg gives us a quality opponent for our season opener and it’s a more convenient game for our fans that are trying travel and show their support for our program,” said Clark. “I’m entering my 20th year at the head of the football program and being able to introduce night football to the College is exciting. Hopefully being able to play night games for the home and league openers will provide us with new energy and will provide our fans with an exciting atmosphere.”

Bridgewater wraps up the non-conference slate on Sept. 27 at Apprentice following an early-season bye week before returning to the Jopson Athletic Complex for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener with Shenandoah. Bridgewater’s week-four contest against the Hornets features the second night game of the season as the Eagles battle Shenandoah at 7 p.m.

The conference schedule undergoes a few of changes to the structure that has been in place for a number of years. Emory & Henry moves to week five after being a long-time staple in the eighth week of the regular season.

Following a trip to Guilford on Oct. 18, the Eagles return to the confines of the Jopson Athletic Complex on Oct. 25 for a Homecoming affair with Washington and Lee. Opening kickoff with the Generals is set for 2 p.m.

The Eagles wrap up the home slate on Nov. 1 when the defending conference champion Tigers of Hampden-Sydney come to town. Bridgewater’s matchup with Hampden-Sydney will also mark Senior Day and caps off Hall of Fame Induction festivities for the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2014.

Bridgewater wraps up the season on the road against Randolph-Macon and Catholic.

“The rotation of the conference schedule provides us with a different look than we’ve had in recent years and we will need some momentum at the tail end of the schedule but it could set us up well for some big games down the stretch run of the season,” commented Clark.

In all, Bridgewater’s opponents on the 2014 schedule won 49 total games during the 2013 season.

Bridgewater finished the 2013 season with a 4-6 overall record.
