A bomb threat was made this afternoon at Fort Defiance High School in Augusta County, and a student was taken into custody following an investigation.

This was the second incident reported in Augusta County today. The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office also arrested a student for threatening to “shoot up” an Augusta County School. The school in this instance was not named.

According to the ACSO, at 2:17 p.m., FDHS school administrators were notified about a student who said there was a bomb.

The administration immediately notified the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office and located the student that allegedly made the threat.

At the conclusion of the investigation and threat assessment, it was determined that there was no direct, immediate or substantiated threat to FDHS, its students, or staff, the sheriff’s office said.

The student was taken into custody and has been charged a felony for making threats to bomb or damage a building.

There was no information released on if the school was evacuated due to the threat. The ACSO did not provide details on the student’s current whereabouts.

“This investigation was handled very quickly, and the student was taken into custody without incident,” said Augusta County Sheriff Donald L. Smith.

Earlier this year, on the first day of the school year, a 15-year-old student was arrested for a bomb threat at Waynesboro High School.
