Police: 15-year-old arrested after bomb threat on first day at Waynesboro High School

The new year got off to a bumpy start for students and staff at Waynesboro High School today after a teen boy was arrested for allegedly making a bomb threat.

According to a joint statement from the Waynesboro Police Department and Waynesboro Public Schools on social media, there was no interruption to school operations, and all students and staff are safe.

The 15-year-old male has been charged for making threats to bomb under Virginia Code section §18.2-83. Following the arrest, the juvenile was released to his parents.

According to the statement, at 12:18 p.m., the Waynesboro Police Department responded to the threat. The collaboration with responding officers led to the swift identification, isolation and securing of the individual responsible for the alleged threat.

The Waynesboro High School administrative staff determined that the staff and students were not at risk following the arrest.
