The depth chart released on Tuesday by UVA Football for the season opener on Saturday with NC State is already old news.

The student-athlete availability report filed with the ACC Wednesday night lists Rico Flores Jr., slated to be the starter at the X – split end – as now being “out.”

Flores missed some time in camp with a lingering hamstring issue, which, uh, oh.

Hamstrings can take forever to heal, and can be quick and easy to re-injure.

This moves Ty’Lyric Coleman into the starting spot at the X.

Coleman was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2023 who has gotten limited time on the field – 109 snaps over the past three seasons, with six catches on eight targets for 62 yards.

The loss of Flores, then, moves three-star true freshman Dylan Cope to backup at X.

Don’t be surprised to see Da’Shawn Martin, the Kent State transfer listed as the backup at the Z position – flanker – get more reps on the other side of the formation.

Martin had 33 catches on 48 targets for 507 yards at Kent State in 2025.
