Albemarle County Police arrested a 48-year-old Madison Heights woman who had a firearm in her purse as she attempted to gain entry into Monticello High School on Tuesday.
According to a report from the ACPD, Bridgett L. Counts, 48, of Madison Heights, was trying to enter the school at 9:45 a.m. when the weapon was flagged by the school’s weapons detection system.
Counts disclosed to the school resource officer that she had a firearm in her purse.
Officers secured the weapon and took Counts into custody without incident.
Counts has been charged with felony possession of a firearm on school property and a misdemeanor concealed carry violation.
She was released on an unsecured bond.
ACPD determined there was no ongoing threat to the school, and the incident was resolved without disruption to school operations, according to the release.
