police crime sceneUpdate: Friday, 8:02 a.m. Dequan A. McCutcheon, Jr., 19, of Buena Vista, was arrested in connection with this case on Thursday evening. He is the unnamed man in the release that warrants had been issued for.

First post: Thursday, 10:25 a.m. Two people are in custody and a third is still being sought in an abduction and assault reported in Augusta County on Wednesday.

Jarrett M. Fitzgerald, 21, of Staunton, and Desiree Morris, 19, of Verona, and a third assailant who isn’t being named by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office pending his arrest, are alleged to have taken part in the incident.

Deputies were dispatched to Milstead Lane in Mount Solon at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday for the report of a threat against the homeowner.

Fitzgerald was determined to be the person making the threats, and deputies tracked him to a Verona motel, where they found a woman in her early 20s who appeared to have been the victim of an assault.

As the investigation unfolded, deputies determined that the female victim had been at a Lyndhurst home when     Fitzgerald and another man showed up during the early morning hours and advised her that they were taking her home.

Once in the car, Fitzgerald informed the victim that he was instead taking her to a Verona motel. The victim asked    several times to be let out of the car, but Fitzgerald refused to let her.

The other man allegedly grabbed and held the victim to prevent the victim from exiting the car.

Upon arrival to the hotel, the victim was taken inside a room, where it’s alleged that she was beaten, choked and a     machete held against her throat.

Morris is alleged to have been in the room when the trio arrived and is alleged to have participated in the beating.

The victim was subsequently able to flee the room and take refuge in the hotel lobby.
