UVA and Maryland are wrapping a home-and-home football series this weekend, and on Wednesday, the schools announced a four-year men’s basketball series that will begin in 2025.

Virginia will host Maryland in 2025 and 2027, and will travel to College Park in 2026 and 2028.

Next year’s game in JPJ will be the first meeting for the former ACC rivals since UVA won at Maryland in the 2018 ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

That win came during the Cavaliers’ run to the 2019 national title.

Virginia has won eight of the last nine in the series, and Tony Bennett is 8-4 in matchups with the Terps.

“I greatly respect Coach Willard and what he’s doing there. We’ve played some exciting games against Maryland in the past, and we’re looking forward to a highly competitive series,” Bennett said in a statement in the release announcing the series.

Kevin Willard is 38-30 in two seasons at Maryland, after winning 225 games at Seton Hall, and leading that program to five NCAA Tournament berths in his 12 seasons there.

“Maryland and Virginia have a long basketball history, and we’re excited to bring this series back to life,” Willard said. “Looking ahead, I think it means a lot to our fanbase to have our historic rivalries rekindled between Georgetown and now Virginia, which has been outstanding under Coach Bennett.”
