kaine new2U.S. Senator Tim Kaine released the following statement today after the Senate voted to confirm Robert McDonald as Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

“I’m proud to join my Senate colleagues in confirming Robert McDonald to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs. I believe Mr. McDonald – a decorated U.S. Army veteran with years of management experience in the private sector –  is the right kind of leader to implement the systemic changes we need at the VA. Along with the bipartisan compromise legislation announced this week, this change in leadership will put the VA on the path to providing the timely medical care owed to our veterans and help the agency regain the trust of the American people.”

In June, Kaine joined U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders, John McCain, Jeff Merkley, and Richard Burr to introduce  The Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice, Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014,the Senate bill that was a basis for the compromise deal reached this week.
