Theater owner: ‘Calm, safe, secure environment’ is focus

Chris Graham

Movie fans thinking of taking in a film at Zeus Digital Theaters will be just as safe tonight as they would have been two weeks ago.

“We want to make sure that people feel at ease,” said Brett Hayes, the owner of the Waynesboro theater, which had a packed house for midnight Friday showings of “The Dark Knight Rises,” a summer blockbuster that is the latest in the popular “Batman” series.

Half a continent away, a mass shooting at a theater in Aurora, Colo., at a “Dark Knight” screening left 12 dead and 38 wounded, prompting police and theater owners across the country to increase security measures in the event of possible copycat attacks.

To that end, Hayes has been in contact with the Waynesboro Police Department, which will offer stepped-up patrols around the theater and will station an officer in the theater.

Hayes is also adding extra staff tonight to increase the presence of ushers at the eight-screen theater complex.

“Our focus, as it has been from day one, is on ensuring that our patrons can go to the movies in a calm, safe, secure environment,” Hayes said.

Zeus Digital Theaters is online at www.ZeusTheaters.com.
