jmu-logo-newAmber Porter, a 6-0 forward/center, has joined the James Madison women’s basketball team after spending her first two collegiate seasons at Stetson.

Due to transfer rules, Porter will sit out the 2015-16 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining, beginning with the 2016-17 slate.

Porter made a splash with the Hatters as she earned 2014 Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year and 2015 A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year honors. She notched First Team All-A-Sun honors in both of her seasons at Stetson.

The Woodbridge, Va., native averaged 13.4 points on 51.8-percent shooting from the floor and 7.6 rebounds per game during her first two seasons of play. She is tied for first in the Stetson record books for blocks (8), and her 129 blocked shots as a freshman (208 career) were the third-highest total in the NCAA for the 2013-14 season and the fifth-highest total for a freshman in NCAA history.

Porter played her high school basketball for Potomac Senior High, where she averaged 27.4 points and 11.3 rebounds per game as a senior. She earned first team all-district and first team all-region honors and appeared in the 2012 Group AAA Virginia state quarterfinals with the Panthers.

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
