Fordham defeats George Mason men’s basketball, 70-68

george-mason2Fordham sank 11 three-pointers to defeat George Mason men’s basketball, 80-68, Wednesdaynight in the Patriot Center. Shevon Thompson notched his 14th double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Fordham was 11-for-18 from three-point range and hit 17-of-19 free throws while out-rebounding Mason 30-29 in the game. Four Rams scored in double-figures led by Mandell Thomas with 25 points. Eric Paschall added 21 points to the board for the visiting squad.

Mason had four players reach double-figures led by Thompson’s 19 points. Marquise Moore contributed 13 points while Isaiah Jackson and Patrick Holloway each added 12. Holloway hit two of Mason’s three triples with Jackson recording the third. The Patriots finished 21-of-31 at the charity stripe and outscored Fordham in the paint, 30-22.

The Patriots led at the halftime break, 34-30, in a period that had six lead changes and three tied scores. Fordham used seven Patriot turnovers for 12 points, while Mason scored 14 points in the paint. The Patriots gained their largest lead of the half at the 5:13 mark following two free throws from Moore for a 28-22 ballgame. Fordham cut it to two, but Moore added a pair of free throws for the halftime tally.

Mason started the second half opening the score to eight points on several occasions before Fordham used a 6-0 spurt to cut the score to one possession, 42-40, at 16:15. The Rams would take their first lead since the first half on a Chris Sengfelder three-pointer at 9:30 for a 54-52 advantage. Mason would knot the game twice thereafter, but Fordham would take its final lead with just under six minutes remaining and would lead by as many as 13.

The Patriots conclude this three-game homestand welcoming Rhode Island on Saturday. Tip is slated for 4 p.m.
