Lt. Brian J. Jenkins is now chief deputy of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. Jenkins’ appointment was announced Monday by Sheriff Donald Smith.
“It is with great honor that I introduce Major Brian Jenkins to Augusta County. He is a great asset to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office,” Smith said.
Jenkins served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves from 1986-1993. He earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice/law enforcement from Montgomery College (Rockville, Md.) in 1993, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Averett University in 2015 and a master’s degree in criminal justice/public administration from Liberty University in 2018.
He joined the police force in Waynesboro in 1994, serving there until moving to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office in 2006.
In his tenure in Waynesboro, he was named the department’s officer of the year in 1997.
Jenkins was also named the 2008 VFW Officer of the Year, and was the 2011 Augusta County Employee of the Year.
