Board of Health vote is crucial step in protecting women’s health

state-capitol2Today’s affirmative vote on the Notice of Intended Regulatory Action (NOIRA) is the first step toward ensuring that rules for women’s health centers are based in medicine and reflect the safety record of first-trimester abortion.

“We are pleased that the Board of Health voted in favor of Commissioner Levine’s Notice of Intended Regulatory Action today,” said Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia Executive Director Cianti Stewart-Reid. “Hundreds of medical experts and more than 10,000 supporters oppose these restrictions. We are pleased the Board of Health listened.”

Specific regulatory language for the amended regulations will be drafted and voted on at a later date. At that time, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia will urge the Board to bring these rules in line with all other health care facility regulations and reflect the medicine of first-trimester abortion, as well as the safety record of abortion. Amendments must be made to protect the confidentiality of patients and the safety of patients and providers.

“At Planned Parenthood, we work every day to make sure women receive high-quality health care they need in a safe, respectful environment. Ensuring the health and safety of our patients is central to our mission,” said Stewart-Reid. “We have served the women and families of the Commonwealth for more than 70 years, and we will continue to provide compassionate, nonjudgmental care, no matter what.”

Planned Parenthood operates 7 health centers across Virginia and serves more than 24,000 patients annually.

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel.
