The Virginia Public Access Project has the answer why there is a discrepancy. According to VPAP, the AP figure differs primarily because of numbers that it gathered in Rockingham County that show Republican Ed Gillespie receiving 5,000 more votes than has been reported by the State Board. Warner also has 2,000 more votes in Rockingham in the AP rendering compared to the State Board’s numbers.
Expect to see the discrepancy cleared up if not by the end of the day, then definitely by the end of the week.
The State Board numbers also don’t yet reflect vote totals from seven precincts.
