Are you struggling for office space?

Contributors

businessIf you manage or run an office, one of the problems you may have come across is a distinct lack of space compared to what you need. Obviously, it isn’t financially viable to uproot and move to another building just because of lack of space, as this can be costly and inconvenient for any business. However, there are other factors that you can consider if you want to try and create more space.

Sometimes, businesses find themselves short of office space due to taking on more employees while in other cases it is just a case of the office becoming cluttered with all sorts of items and equipment. The good news is that there are steps that you can take in both cases, so you can free up more room in the office.

What to do if you have too many employees

If you have more employees than you do office space, you need to think of a suitable solution if moving is not an option. You can’t have employees coming in with no desk to sit at and no area from where they can work properly. However, one solution that could be beneficial to both your business and your employees is considering remote working. While not all employees will be able to work remotely, you will find that there are plenty that are able and willing to do this. By allowing some of your employees to work remotely, you will be able to ensure you have adequate space in the office without impacting on productivity. In addition, many employees will love the idea of remote working, which means that when it comes to hiring more staff you could find that there are far more people interested in your position as a result of this benefit.

Dealing with a cluttered office

Another reason why you may be struggling for space at your office is because of the sheer amount of clutter that you have. This could include anything from documents and files through to unnecessary furniture and equipment. Of course, there may be some items that you will need in the future but rather than have them taking up valuable room in the office you can look at putting them into cheap storage options. If you have items that you want to get rid of altogether you have a number of options available.

One of the options is simply to dispose of the items if they are damaged or unusable for any reason. If you only have a few items, you can take them to the local tip but for larger amounts you may need to hire a skip. Another thing you can do if you have items that are in pretty good condition but that you no longer need is give them to a local charity or even sell them online. There are plenty of people who are looking for second hand office furniture and equipment for their own ventures, so selling them on should be no problem.
