AFP

vmiThe 2018 VMI cross country schedule, a slate of six meets, was released by the program Wednesday afternoon.

For the second straight year, the Keydets will open just down the road in Blacksburg, this time competing at the Virginia Tech Invite on August 31. The squads then head to the JMU Invite, held in New Market, on Sept. 8 before having three weeks away from competition.

The schedule resumes Sept. 29 in Leesburg, where the Keydets contest the Mason Invitational before heading to High Point’s VertCross Invite in Kernersville, N.C. for the third consecutive year. That meet takes place on Oct. 12, and is the final tune-up before the SoCon Championships, scheduled for Oct. 27 in Cullowhee, N.C.

The final meet on the slate is the 2018 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships, set for Nov. 9 in Rock Hill, S.C., hosted by Winthrop.

The Keydet men’s squad will return its two leading runners from a season ago, Jahanzib Shahbaz and Kyle Sabourin, along with a talented list of sophomores, while the women’s team will be led by Logan Luckett, who returns for her junior campaign after finishing just outside the top-25 in the conference a season ago.
