VDOT road work report: June 10-14

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for mowing operations. Monday toFriday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Cleaning bridge slopes. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 13 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Cleaning paved ditches. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 31 eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repairs over Route 635.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 21, 2013.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Fiber optic cable installations both underground and above ground. Work will include shoulder closures and occasional lane closures. Work zone between the West Virginia Line at Sweet Springs and Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) and then continuing on Route 311 north to Route 601 (Tuckahoe Road), then continuing on Route 601 to the West Virginia Line. Estimated completion June 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 635 – Flagger-controlled lane closures for bridge repairs at Interstate 64. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* Route 647 – Pavement work from intersection with Hattie Street to intersection with Horse Mountain View and Mall Road.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 792 – Pavement work from intersection with Horse Mountain View to intersection with Mallow Road.  Mondaythrough Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Various roads — Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Pipe installation, mowing, paving and patching with flagger traffic control, Tuesday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Patching and shoulder repair with flagger traffic control. Signage traffic control for mowing. Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Patching, pipe replacement and brush cutting with flagger traffic control. Signage traffic control for mowing. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* (NEW) Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Single lane closures for mowing  operations. Monday toFriday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and cleaning bridge slopes. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* (NEW) Mile marker 173 to 195, northbound and southbound – Cleaning bridge slopes. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 173 to 205.5, northbound and southbound – Debris removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 180.8, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Also southbound left exit ramp narrows. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completionJune 28, 2013. * (NEW) Mile marker 184 to 185.3, northbound – Installation of signs. Tuesday and Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 195 to 202.5, northbound – Alternating single lane closures for Truck Climbing Lane project paving and guardrail installation. June 10-13, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation north of Route 39. Estimated completion end of June.

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation south of I-81 Exit 195. Estimated completion end of June.

* Route 11 (North Lee Highway) – Fiber optic cable installation north of Natural Bridge. Estimated completion end of June.

* Route 11 at I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill).  Flagger controlled lane closure as needed for I-81 bridge repair over Route 11. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion June 28, 2013.

* Route 11 – Paving work from intersection with Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to intersection with Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is Dec. 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing operations with signage for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) – Single lane closure with flagger traffic control for waterline replacement project. Work area is between Route 11 and Lincoln Road.  Estimated completion mid-June.

* Route 753 (Zollman Mill Road) – Closed for bridge replacement over tributary of Buffalo Creek. Work zone is 1.08 mile south of Route 610 (Plank Road) and 0.02 mile west of Route 674 (Sack Road). Traffic will be detoured to Route 251 (Collierstown Road) by Route 674 or Route 764 (Possum Hollow). Estimated completion June 14. 

* Various roads – Ditching, plant mix repairs, laying asphalt with a grader, patching and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing operations with signage for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 84 – Left and right lane closures for paving work. Work zone is 1.0 miles east of Highland County line extending to Route 602. June 10-14, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

* Various roads – Mowing operations with signage for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 644 (Hardscrabble Road) – Ditch work with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Various roads – Patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64 * Mile marker 96 to 106 on Afton Mountain, eastbound and westbound – Left lane and right and left shoulder closures for installation of rock safety fencing and cable barrier/guardrail, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expected completion July 2013.

 

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 208, northbound and southbound – Cleaning paved ditches. shoulders, ramps and medians. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 205.5 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and cleaning bridge slopes. Monday toFriday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville), northbound and southbound – Single lane closure northbound for sewer construction, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion is November 30, 2013.

* Route 250, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for paving from Route 636 to Waynesboro city limits. Flagger traffic control. Sunday to Saturday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Installation of sanitary line and water line at various locations, with retaining wall placement along Delphine Avenue to Fourth Street. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* Various locations — Mowing operations, Monday to Friday. 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 648 (Christians Creek Road) – Ditch work with lane closures as needed. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* (UPDATE) Route 698 (Wise Hollow Road) – Road construction from Route 690 (Summit Church Road) to the Rockingham County Line. Flagger controlled traffic. Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013.

* Route 748 (Flint Hill Road) – Road construction west of Mt. Sidney, from Route 626 (Seawright Springs Road) to Route 696 (Sidney Gap Road). Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Estimated completion July 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* (NEW) Route 818, various locations – Paving operations with flagger traffic control, Expected completion end of October.

* (NEW) Route 828, various locations – Paving operations with flagger traffic control, Expected completion end of October. * Route 1050 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday throughFriday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 1316 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) cul-de-sac. Monday throughFriday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Route 1510, various locations – Paving operations with flagger traffic control, Expected completion end of October.

* (NEW) Various routes – Grading operations. Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* Various routes – Mowing and patching. Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures.Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion January 14, 2014.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – Entrance upgrades between Route 765 (Gravels Road) and I-81 interchange. Flagger-controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013.

* Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 42 (John Wayland Highway) between Route 746 (Herring Lane) and Route 257 (Mason Street) – Right lane and shoulder closure for pavement work.  June 12 and 13, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting.

* Route 42 (North Main Street) at the intersection of Route 617 (Church Street) in the town of Timberville – Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* (NEW) Route 253 (Port Republic Road), eastbound and westbound – Left lane closure for median work between Harrisonburg city limits and Route 726 and Stone Spring Road. Monday –Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion August 1, 2013.

* Route 259 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

* (NEW) Route 331 – Paving operations with flagger controlled alternate lane closures. Work zone Route 253 (Port Republic Road) to Route 11 south. June 9 -15, 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 613 (Singers Glen Road) between Route 777 (Peter Driver Lane and Route 876 (Kieffer Road) – Road closed for annual parade, Saturday, June 15, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane  closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

* (UPDATE) Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Road closure for bridge replacement over War Branch. Traffic will detour via Route 798 (Arkton Road) to Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road). Work zone is 0.55 miles north of the intersection of Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) and Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road) and 1.85 miles south of the intersection of Route 620 and Route 798 (Arkton Road).  Estimated completion July 12, 2013.

* Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Road closed to through traffic for road demolition and reconstruction. One lane will remain open for property owners and residents. Expect delays. Estimated completion September 2013.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.  Estimated completion December 6, 2013.

* Route 918 (Mill Street) will be temporarily closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* Various roads — Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Bridge painting operations over Overall Run Creek. June 10-133, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Estimated completion June 13, 2013.

* Route 340 – Bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway and approaches, 1.40 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines to 3.5 miles south of the Page and Warren County lines. Daily lane closures with flagger traffic control. Shoulder closures, 24 hours-a-day. Motorists should use extreme caution and obey posted speed limit. Estimated completion is fall 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to the intersection of Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Pipe cleaning with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 264 to 300, southbound – Spot leveling operations at various locations with right and left lane closures, Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion June 21.

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan 14, 2014.

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 11 intersection with Route 42 (Town of Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday – Friday. Estimated completion May 2014.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 629 – Pavement work from intersection of Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to intersection at Main Street. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Route 645 (Old School House Drive) – Road closed for culvert replacement (Maurertown area), 0.25 miles south of Route 654 and 0.30 miles north of Route 657. Northbound traffic will detour north on Route 645 (Old School House Drive) to west on Route 654 (Zion Church Road) then back to Route 11 (Old Valley Pike). Southbound traffic will detour south on Route 645 (Old School House Drive) to west on Route 654 (Zion church Road) then back to Route 11 (Old Valley Pike. Work will begin July 1. Estimated completion July 31, weather permitting

* Route 771 (Boyer Road) – Closed for bridge replacement beginning May 28 at 8 a.m. Work zone is in the Fort Valley area, from 1.25 miles west of Route 678 to 0.15 miles north of Route 773. Northbound traffic will detour onto Route 774, north on Route 678 and back onto Route 771. Southbound traffic will detour onto Route 678, west on Route 774 and end detour at Route 773. Estimated completion is June 21, 2013.

* Various roads – Surface treatment. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion June 30, 2013.

* Various roads – Mowing and pavement patching. Monday to Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound – Spot leveling operations at various locations with right and left lane closures, Monday – Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion June 21.

* Mile marker 317, northbound – Extend deceleration lane at Exit 317. Nighttime right lane closures, Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., and daytime shoulder closures. Estimated completion is November 2013.

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan 14, 2014.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 37, southbound ramp to Route 622 – Flagger traffic control during daylight hours for installation of new traffic signal. Estimated completion August 2013.

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads — Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing and patching work. Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Surface treatment. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion June 30, 2013.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 340 – Left and right lane closures for guardrail work. June 10-14, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Various roads – Surface treatment. Traffic controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicles. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion June 30, 2013.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing, patching, cleaning/replacing pipes. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* (NEW) Mile marker 6 to 7 – Single lane closures (eastbound) and single shoulder closures (westbound) for bridge inspections over Crooked Run.  Thursday, June 13, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

No lane closures reported.

 

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 340 from Page County Line to Route 737 – Milling and paving operations, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flagger traffic control with pilot vehicles. Estimated completion June 21.

 

Secondary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 611 (Long Meadow Road) – Bridge painting operations over Molly Booth Run.  June 13-15. Estimated completion June 15.

* Route 631 (Gooney Manor Loop) from Route 613 to 1.90 mile south of Route 632. Flagger traffic control for road grading and surface treatment. 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 26, 2018.

* (NEW) Various roads – Mowing and patching. Monday to Friday.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
