The Virginia men’s soccer team moved onto the NCAA College Cup with a 2-1 victory over ConnecticutFriday evening on a wet, chilly evening at Klöckner Stadium. The eighth-seeded Cavaliers (13-5-5) got goals from Ryan Zinkhan and Jordan Allen as well as stout defense to move on to the 11th College Cup in program history.

The Virginia women’s soccer team had its record-breaking 2013 season come to an end Friday night in the NCAA College Cup semifinals, falling in penalty kicks to UCLA following a 1-1 draw. The Cavaliers end the season at 24-1-1, setting a record for wins in a season.

ODU football coach Bobby Wilder announced on Friday that Ulrick Edmonds will join the Monarch staff as linebackers coach. Edmonds comes to Old Dominion after serving as an assistant coach at James Madison from 2004-13. Edmonds had experience coaching the tight ends, running backs and was the Dukes’ recruiting coordinator.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services announced today that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is opening the Conservation Stewardship Program for new enrollments for federal fiscal year 2014.

Bob McDonnell will be the keynote speaker at the Celebration Reception being held at McKee Foods in Stuarts Draft on Monday, Dec. 9, in recognition of the Chamber’s achievement of winning the Governor’s Bowl Food & Fund Challenge.

UVa. started the 2013-2014 season ranked in the preseason Top 25 and picked fourth in the preseason ACC poll. Expectations being what they were, the 7-2 start to the season, punctuated by a listless performance in a 48-38 loss at home to #8 Wisconsin Wednesday night in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge, leads to a sharp grading curve for this group.
