McDonnell’s budget to provide $55 million in funding for public safety

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced on Friday that his biennial budget will provide $55.3 million in targeted funding to support public safety around Virginia. The governor’s budget proposals include $22.2 million for sheriffs, Commonwealth’s Attorneys, and Circuit Court Clerk Deputies.

AAA: Gas prices continue to fall

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 13 of 16 days (through Friday) since Thanksgiving. This follows a streak of 15 consecutive daily increases leading up to the holiday. This week the national gas price average dropped a penny to $3.25 cents per gallon Friday, six cents more expensive than one month ago.

McAuliffe nominates Brian Moran to serve as Secretary of Public Safety

Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe nominated former Delegate Brian Moran to serve as Secretary of Public Safety in his administration. Moran spent seven years as a prosecutor in the Arlington County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office before entering the House of Delegates, where he sat on the Courts of Justice Committee for his entire 12 years in office.

Public hearing on improvements to Route 610 in Augusta County scheduled

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing concerning proposed improvements to Route 610 (Howardsville Turnpike) in Augusta County. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad, 10 Manor Road, Stuarts Draft, Va. 24477.
