Virginia State Police investigate fatal crash in Orange County

Virginia State Police Senior Trooper M.C. Gremillion is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash in Orange County. The crash occurred Monday at 11:45 a.m. on Ponderosa Drive south of (Route 670) Ridgeway Drive.

A 2013 Can-Am Spyder was traveling north on Ponderosa when it ran off the right side of the road. The Can-Am struck the edge of a driveway and the rider was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver of the Can-Am, Lester M. Steenberg, 71, of Barboursville, Va., was not wearing a helmet. Steenberg died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Virginia State Police was assisted by the Orange Sheriff’s Office, Orange County EMS, and the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department.
