Virginia State Police investigate fatal crash in Clarke County

police crime sceneVirginia State Police Senior Trooper D.R. Gray is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Clarke County. The crash occurred Monday at 12:20 p.m. on Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) at Route 653 (Kimble Road).

A 2015 GMC Sierra was traveling south on Rt. 653. As it crossed Rt. 7, it collided with a westbound 2013 Kenworth T800 (Cement Truck).

The driver of the Sierra, Harvey J. Owens Jr., 72, of Berryville, Va., was transported to Winchester Medical Center where succumbed to his injuries.

A passenger in the Sierra was also transported to Winchester Medical Center with minor injuries.

The driver of the Kenworth, a 46 -year-old male from Fort Valley, Va., was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
