VDOT: Road work, maintenance, east of the Blue Ridge for the week of June 23-27

VDOT has updated its schedule for road work and maintenance in Albemarle County, Fluvanna County, Greene County and Nelson County for the week of June 23-27.

The VDOT Customer Service Center can assist with reporting road hazards, asking transportation questions, or getting information related to Virginia’s roads.

Albemarle County 

(NEW) Traffic engineering – Expect right shoulder closures in the following areas:

  • U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) between Seminole Court and Route 866 (Greenbrier Drive) in the northbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), between Premier Circle and Route 1452 (Westfield Road) in the southbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • U.S. 29 (Monacan Trail), between Route 801 (Rock Branch Lane) and crossover at Rural Ridge Lane in the southbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road), at Route 712 (Coles Rolling Road) in the northbound lanes, Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Bridge inspections – Expect alternating lane closures in the following areas:

  • U.S. 29 (Monacan Trail) at Route 804 (Thackers Lane) in the northbound lanes, Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Route 601 (Free Union Road), between Route 829 (Horseshoe Bend Road) and Route 678 (Ridge Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Route 601 (Free Union Road), at Route 653 (Old Free Union Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, Wednesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Route 626 (James River Road) between Route 602 (Howardsville Turnpike) and the Nelson County line in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Roadway improvements — Expect alternating lane closures nightly, Monday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., 10 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday, 9 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, 8 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday in the following areas unless otherwise noted:

  • U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail), between Route 1694 (Branchlands Boulevard) and the Charlottesville city line in the northbound and southbound lanes.
  • U.S. 250 Bypass, between U.S. 29 (Emmet Street) and the Charlottesville city line in the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road), between Route 680 (Browns Gap Turnpike) and U.S. 250 (Ivy Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Route 743 (Hydraulic Road), between U.S. 250 Bypass and U.S. 29 in the northbound and southbound lanes.

(NEW) U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) – Utility work under VDOT permit. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 1227 (Savannah Court) and Route 751 (Brownsville Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Tuesday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 250 (Rockfish Gap Turnpike) – Shoulder repairs. Expect alternating lane closures between Normandy Drive and Route 240 (Three Notch’d Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 250 (Ivy Road) – Street sweeping. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between the U.S. 29/250 Bypass and Farmington Drive in the eastbound and westbound lanes, Wednesday, 3:30 a.m. to 5 a.m.

(NEW) Route 20 (South Constitution Route) – Tree trimming. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures between Route 726 (James River Road) and the Buckingham County line in the northbound and southbound lanes, Monday through Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

(NEW) Route 20 (Scottsville Road) – Signal installation. Expect alternating lane closures at Route 712 (Coles Rolling Road) in the northbound and southbound lanes, 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Route 601 (Old Ivy Road) – Bridge superstructure repairs. Bridge will be restricted to eastbound traffic during construction. Westbound traffic should follow signed detour around the work. Drivers should go slow and use caution near the work zone. Intermittent night closures will also be in place during construction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. For detailed detour information, visit Route 601 bridge over U.S. 29/250. Expected completion in the fall of 2026.


Fluvanna County

Route 633 (North Boston Road) – Paving. Expect alternating lane closures between Route 600 (Paynes Mill Road) and Route 676 (Oliver Creek Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes., daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.


Greene County

(NEW) Utility work under VDOT permit – Expect lane and shoulder closures 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the following areas:

  • Route 607 (Cedar Grove Road), road closed between Route 1150 (Rolling Hills Road) and Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) in the eastbound and westbound lanes.
  • Route 607 (Cedar Grove Road), alternating lane closures between U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 1157 (Willow Creek Drive) in the westbound lanes, Monday.

(NEW) U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Debris pickup. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures at the Rockingham County line in the westbound lanes, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

(NEW) U.S. 33 (Spotswood Trail) – Traffic engineering. Expect both shoulders to be closed in the eastbound lanes and right shoulder closures in the westbound lanes between U.S. 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 652 (Sassafras Lane), 8 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday.

(NEW) Route 670 (Preddy Creek Road) – Slope work. Expect alternating lane closures between 407 Preddy Creek Road and 850 Preddy Creek Road in the eastbound and westbound lanes, daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.


Nelson County

Route 653 (Wilson Road) – Bridge Replacement. The bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad is closed. Estimated reopening, November 2025.

Various Roads – Crews will perform various activities throughout the district to include, but are not limited to bridge & guardrail maintenance, brush/tree/limb cutting, pothole/surface/shoulder work, surface treatment/paving operations, work orders, mowing, boom axing, drainage repairs/ work and roadside cleanup.
