VDOT ready for more winter weather on Wednesday

Chris Graham

snow-plow-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation is gearing up for another round of winter weather forecast to arrive early Wednesday in central Virginia.

Today VDOT crews are applying brine to Interstate 64 in Albemarle and Louisa counties and I-66 in Fauquier County. The salt solution is used as a pretreatment to prevent snow and ice from bonding to the road surface, making snow removal an easier task.

VDOT’s Culpeper District crews will report for duty late this evening and will begin treating roads with salt and sand once precipitation begins.

Motorists are advised that roads are likely to be slick and icy during the Wednesday morning commute. Closely monitor weather and road conditions and delay travel or make alternate arrangements when possible. Once on the road, reduce speed, increase following distance and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.

Road conditions and other real-time travel information can be found on the 511 Virginia website, the free VDOT 511 mobile app or by calling 511 from any phone in Virginia. VDOT updates are also on Facebook and the district’s Twitter account, @VaDOTCulp.

Leave Dianna Russini alone: Sportswriters, coaches, happen to like hot tubs

I’m totally on the side of Dianna Russini in this generated controversy over her being caught holding hands, hugging and lounging in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel. Seriously, what sportswriter isn’t holding hands, hugging and lounging in hot tubs with coaches they cover? Just last week, for instance, Ryan Odom,...
