Pregame Coverage

BC strikes first

Update: 12:13 p.m. Virginia, on its opening possession, picked up a first down on its first play from scrimmage, on a 10-yard pass from Anthony Colandrea to Malachi Fields, but the drive stalled from there.

BC got the ball at its 22, picked up a first down on third-and-short, then marched down the field, 78 yards on nine plays, getting the score on a 9-yard TD pass from Thomas Castellanos to Jaedn Skeete.

Castellanos was 6-for-6 for 67 yards on the drive.

Boston College 7, UVA 0, 7:38/1st.

UVA offense stalls out again

Update: 12:20 p.m. The UVA offense stalled out with a three-and-out. The line isn’t getting anything for the backs, and Colandrea has been sacked twice.

End 1: Boston College 7, Virginia 0

Update: 12:35 p.m. Dominant first quarter for BC, which outgained UVA 122-16.

Virginia got just the one first down, on the first play from scrimmage.

Anthony Colandrea isn’t getting enough time to throw. BC is going with seven- and eight-man boxes on D, and daring Colandrea to connect with his receivers in one-on-ones in the flat and on the perimeter.

Which he isn’t doing.

BC scores again

Update: 12:43 p.m. Boston College picked up a fourth-and-inches at the 31, then scored on a 29-yard TD pass from Thomas Castellanos to Kamari Morales.

We’re getting close to blowout territory here.

BC has scored twice, and UVA has one first down.

Boston College 14, UVA 0, 13:01/1st

Virginia finally gets on the board

Update: 12:58 p.m. UVA drove into the red zone, but the drive stalled, helped by an awful decision by Des Kitchings on the third-and-4 at the BC 16.

Kitchings called for a zone run, and Kobe Pace was stopped for a loss.

Sigh.

Will Bettridge was good from 35 on the field-goal try.

That was a 14-play, 35-yard drive that took 8:15 off the clock.

Boston College 14, Virginia 3, 4:46/2nd

That ended as well as it could have

Update: 1:24 p.m. Virginia got the ball back at its own 3 with 1:44 to go, and appeared to be reduced to trying to force BC to burn its final two timeouts.

The break: a targeting penalty on BC safety Khari Johnson got the ball out of the shadow of the end zone.

Anthony Colandrea converted a third-and-10 with an 11-yard scramble, then connected with JR Wilson for 18 yards to get into plus territory.

Another penalty on BC got the ball into the red zone with nine seconds left.

Colandrea almost blew the scoring opportunity, scrambling and throwing incomplete with one second left.

Will Bettridge converted the 33-yard field-goal try.

Half: Boston College 14, Virginia 6

UVA stopped on fourth-and-goal at the 2

Update: 2:07 p.m. That’s it. That’s the update.

Virginia went 81 yards in 16 plays, but an Anthony Colandrea pass intended for Andre Greene Jr. in the end zone was broken up.

End 3: BC 14, UVA 6, ‘Hoos back in the red zone

Update: 2:18 p.m. A trick play, a double-pass to Malachi Fields, who then found Kobe Pace for a 31-yard gain, has Virginia back in the red zone at the end of the third quarter.

UVA outgained BC 132-43 in the third quarter.

Red zone issues again

Update: 2:25 p.m. Virginia got another three, on a short Will Bettridge field goal.

UVA got five yards on a first-down run by Xavier Brown, but lost it back on a snap infraction.

An incomplete pass in the end zone and a 5-yard gain on a bubble screen led to the field-goal try.

Boston College 14, UVA 9, 13:29/4th

A lot to unpack here

Update: 2:33 p.m. Anthony Britton tipped a Thomas Castellanos pass at midfield at the line, and Chico Bennett Jr. got the INT.

Kobe Pace broke off a 20-yard run, and then Anthony Colandrea connected with Malachi Fields for a 30-yard TD.

The two-point conversion pass from Colandrea to Andre Green Jr. was good.

Virginia 17, Boston College 14, 10:39/4th

That. Just. Happened.

Update: 2:47 p.m. Thomas Castellanos, forced to scramble on a second-and-19, fumbled, and Jonas Sanker recovered and ran it back 40 yards for the score.

Virginia 24, Boston College 14, 6:02/4th

Finishing us out

Update: 3:03 p.m. Kendren Smith intercepted an Anthony Castellanos pass and returned it into plus territory.

A first down by Kobe Pace just before the two-minute timeout seals it, with BC out of timeouts.

Recap to come.
