University of Richmond athletics announces One Richmond campaign

Contributors

ur-spiders1The University of Richmond athletics department is proud to announce the “One Richmond, United in Red” campaign for the 2014-15 academic and athletic year.

As a way to continue to unite and energize the student-athletes, coaches, staff, campus community, alumni and fan base, the Spiders will utilize “One Richmond” as their primary marketing slogan for the upcoming year. “One Richmond” originated as an internal theme from the men’s basketball program last year and caught momentum among the campus community throughout the season. The meaning of “One Richmond” derives from a campus bound together by its love for this great institution and city as well as its desire to contribute to its success.

“We are committed to academic excellence, championships, and service,” said director of athletics Keith Gill. “Our community is close-knit and supportive. We are One Richmond. One Richmond is how we describe the diversity and collectivity of our community. It is also a driving force to unify not only our teams and department, but also our campus and the City of Richmond.”

As another way to promote unity, Richmond will utilize “United in Red” as a secondary slogan. “United in Red” will be used to encourage fans to wear red at all University of Richmond events and contests. The Athletic Department will provide “One Richmond” t-shirts to all of its student-athletes, coaches and staff, and has committed to providing red “One Richmond” t-shirts for fans at a “red out” men’s basketball game to be selected at a later date.

Additionally, fans are encouraged to visit the University Bookstore to obtain their official red “One Richmond” game day t-shirts starting Sept. 5. Fans will also see branding elements around campus with “One Richmond” light pole banners being installed as well as banners in Robins Stadium.

A special video, highlighting the university’s academic excellence and athletic accomplishments, will accompany the launch of the campaign, showcasing “One Richmond” and its significance to the university community and city of Richmond.

The “One Richmond” campaign will also generate a number of other activities throughout the year including giveaways for students and fans at selected events, a social media “One Richmond” video contest for fans to share their love for the University in the most creative ways, a photo contest for fans showing the best use of #OneRichmond and additional branding materials throughout campus and the city of Richmond.
