The FBI investigation, now shuttered, into White House border czar Tom Homan and the $50,000 bag o’money, began after a Homan associate reached out to undercover agents to tell them that Homan would help them get future government contracts in exchange for cold, hard cash.
Dummkopfs.
“I’m going to need to talk to my lawyer,” said a guy named Jace Calderas, who worked under Homan in the Obama administration, when MSNBC reached out to Calderas for comment on his role in the matter.
Totally sounds innocent, doesn’t he?
ICYMI
By the way: Tom Homan got his start in government in the Obama administration?
Turns out, yes: he schemed up the “separate children from their parents” immigration policy, and was given the rank of “Distinguished Executive” by Obama in 2015.
The Washington Post said of Homan in 2015: “Thomas Homan deports people. And he’s really good at it.”
Motherf***er.
Back to the bag o’money: the reporting on this is that an internal Justice Department document reveals that Calderas had told the undercover agents, posting as businessmen, that Homan could help them win government contracts if Donald Trump were to win the 2024 presidential election, in exchange for one million dollars.
Of note here: Homan isn’t denying any of this.
In response to a direct question on the $50,000, apparently a down payment, in a Fox News interview last week, Homan said merely that he “did nothing criminal,” which can be technically true, if Trump orders the DOJ to shut down the investigation, as has been done.
As the reporting on the investigation intensified, we got a joint statement from FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said FBI agents and Justice Department prosecutors “found no credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing” by Homan, and that “as a result, the investigation has been closed.”
Internal DOJ memos describe Calderas, the co-owner of a detention services and government contracting firm based in Texas, as broaching the idea to the undercover agents back in 2023, and engaging in several subsequent conversations ahead of a Sept. 20, 2024, meeting in Dallas at which agents recorded Homan, at the time a private consultant, accepting $50,000 in cash.
The Trump administration is trying to spin this as a politically motivated matter, which, if that’s the case, the Biden administration is borderline incompetent – if you’re going to launch a politically motivated investigation, you’re supposed to tell people about it as you’re doing it, and using it for political gain.
Pro tip: it does no good for a politically motivated investigation to leak out 10 months after an election that it could have influenced in your direction.
