South Carolina man dead after high-speed crash in Franklin County

A South Carolina man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Saturday at 12:25 a.m. on Route 220 in Franklin County.

Erick Keith Custis, 52, of Charleston, S.C., died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.

Custis was traveling south on Route 220 when his Jeep Liberty ran off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a tree. The accident happened at the intersection with Southside Drive.

Speed was a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
