Smyth County: Man in custody after fatal stabbing in Town of Saltville

One woman is dead after a stabbing last night in the Town of Saltville in Smyth County.

The suspect, Daniel Baptiste, 31, is in custody, and has been charged with murder and use of a weapon in the commission of a felony.

The victim’s name has not been released.

The homicide took place on Aug. 16 at approximately 11 p.m. in the 100 block of Daydream Ridge Road. The victim died at the scene, according to Virginia State Police.

Baptiste is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail.

The VSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation Wytheville field office is in the early stages of its investigation.
