Sinkhole may cause delays on Interstate 81 northbound in Shenandoah County

i81-headerA sinkhole has developed along the left side of Interstate 81 northbound at mile marker 284 in Shenandoah County.  The left travel lane is closed.

This location is between exit 283 at Route 42 in Woodstock and exit 291 at Route 651 in the Toms Brook area.

Crews will assess the hole and begin repairs.  No estimated time of work or completion have been established yet.

Motorists should expect significant traffic delays in this area.

All work is weather permitting.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.
